BRIEFLY : NEW FREEWAY NAME GETS ASSEMBLY OK.


SACRAMENTO - The state Assembly has passed a resolution calling for portions of the 134 freeway to be renamed ``The Glendale Police Investigator Charles A. Lazzaretto Memorial Freeway.'' Lazzaretto was shot and killed in the line of duty In the Line of Duty may refer to:
  • In the Line of Duty (film)
  • In the Line of Duty (Stargate SG-1)
 in May 1997.

``I applaud the courageous efforts of our law enforcement officers. Day after day they place themselves in danger for the safety of our communities,'' said Assemblyman Scott Wildman Scott Wildman was a California State Assemblyman from 1996 until 2000. That year, he lost a State Senate primary to Dr. Jack Scott, an Assemblyman from a neighboring district. Wildman received 46.7% of the vote. , D-Glendale, who sponsored the bill. ``This memorial is a fitting tribute for the altruistic sacrifices police officers make every day.''

Burbank Airport is site for blood drive

BURBANK - The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport will conduct its third American Red Cross American Red Cross: see Red Cross.  blood drive on Friday, to help with blood shortages typically experienced during the summer months.

The drive is located in the airport's Skyroom, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a special need for type O blood.

Blood donors must be in good health, at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and not be at risk of contracting HIV HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), either of two closely related retroviruses that invade T-helper lymphocytes and are responsible for AIDS. There are two types of HIV: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is responsible for the vast majority of AIDS in the United States.  or AIDS.

Meeting set to talk about airport future

GLENDALE - A meeting to discuss the future of the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport will be held Friday to discuss a $30-million payment due to Lockheed by a July 26 court-ordered deadline. Without city approval to build a new terminal, there is no guarantee the airport will receive the deed to the property.

The meeting sponsored by the Valley Industry and Commerce Association takes place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Red Lion Hotel, 100 W. Glenoaks Blvd. in Glendale. The $25 admission fee will cover a panel discussion, parking and a continental breakfast.

BURBANK - City residents will be able to safely dispose of household hazardous waste Household hazardous waste (HHW) is the term for common household chemicals and substances for which the owner no longer has a use. Exhibiting many of the same dangerous characteristics as fully regulated hazardous waste, HHW is not regulated by the EPA.  at a Waste Roundup scheduled for July 31.

Materials such as paint, car batteries, used motor oil and pesticides are a few of the many things that may be environmentally hazardous if disposed of incorrectly. If such materials get into the water table they can cause serious public danger.

The roundup will take place at the Burbank Fire Training Center at 1845 N. Ontario St. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
