 board decided unanimously Thursday.

Metropolitan Transportation Authority staffers had recommended rerouting the lines to the Hollywood station and making passengers complete their journeys downtown on the subway to avoid a duplication of services.

The board rejected the staff proposal, approving a motion by City Councilman Hal Bernson, an MTA board member, to keep the four express lines in operation. They are Lines 424, 425, 427 and 522.

The MTA also approved a pilot program of ``rapid buses,'' including one line that will run on Ventura Boulevard starting in mid-2000, between the Universal City subway station and Warner Center. The 16-mile route will have 14 stops - about one every 1.3 miles - instead of one stop every quarter-mile for local buses.

A Lake Isabella man pleaded not guilty to killing a Hells Angel motorcycle gang member and the biker's girlfriend, and stealing valuables from the couple's home in Chatsworth.

In September, doctors said she had only six months to live.

Schoonover was arrested in August outside the post office in Marina del Rey, where she had allegedly stuffed cyanide packets with health supplement brochures into 100 envelopes. Only a two-count federal complaint had been filed before prosecution was put on hold because of her health.

The complaint, which did not include the Marina incident, alleged that in April and June she ``knowingly deposited for mailing and delivery a poison with intent to injure and kill another.'' She was deemed a danger and ordered held in federal custody.
