 Amelia Earnest, who had cooperated in a series of inspector general investigations into fraud, waste and politically connected, underperforming contractors.

The Daily News reported last week that Earnest was laid off with 52 other MTA workers in November even though Inspector General Arthur Sinai confirmed she had repeatedly helped his office. MTA policy forbids retribution against those cooperating in IG investigations.

The MTA has declined to discuss the case, saying it is a personnel matter, but Sinai said he had begun investigating the circumstances surrounding her layoff after the Daily News told him it had occurred.

``The good news is we are right now putting into effect a whole set of physical facilities improvements designed to make the (lives) of our disabled students better on campus,'' President E. Bing Inocencio said.
