BRIEFLY : MINOR EARTHQUAKES RATTLE THE SOUTHLAND.


Three small earthquakes struck Southern California on Saturday, but there were no reports of injuries or damage.

The first was a small offshore quake Saturday morning near Santa Catalina Island San·ta Cat·a·li·na Island   or Catalina Island

An island off southern California in the southern Santa Barbara Islands. Discovered in 1542, it has been a noted resort center since the 1920s.

Another quake was a magnitude 3.8 earthquake at 6:32 p.m. It was centered 2 miles southeast of Alhambra, said Caltech Seismologist Lucy Jones.

Boy taken from pool in critical condition

PORTER RANCH - A 12-year-old boy was in critical condition Saturday after being pulled from a backyard swimming pool in Porter Ranch, where he was unconscious in the water for at least 10 minutes, a fire spokesman said.

The incident was reported to authorities at about 2:55 p.m. at 11820 Thunderbird Ave., said Los Angeles city fire spokesman Bob Collis.

The boy was fully clothed when his father and a neighbor pulled him from the pool, Collis said. He was taken to Granada Hills Community Hospital.

Gas station fire victim from Van Nuys

SHERMAN OAKS - Angel Silva, a Van Nuys man who was burned in a fire at a gas station, was in critical condition with burns over 90 percent of his body Saturday, officials said.

Silva, 22, was burned and his brother injured in the fire Friday.

He was in ``gravely critical'' condition at the Grossman Burn Center at Sherman Oaks Hospital Sherman Oaks Hopital (SOH) is an 153 bed acute care facility in Sherman Oaks, California, USA and is home of world renowned the Grossman Burn Center. SOH is owned and operated by Prime Healthcare Services, Inc. , said center spokesman Larry Weinberg.

Silva's 22-year-old brother suffered burns to his hands after he tried to get his brother away from the flames, Collis said.

Chatsworth depot to host family fiesta
