Former heavyweight boxing champion Oliver McCall was released from jail Saturday after serving a little more than half of a one-year jail sentence.

``I feel great,'' McCall, 35, said in a telephone interview after his release in Martinsville, Va. ``I want to get ready to fight.''

McCall, who was in jail for resisting arrest resisting arrest n. the crime of using physical force (no matter how slight in the eyes of most law enforcement officers) to prevent arrest, handcuffing and/or taking the accused to jail.  and assaulting a law enforcement officer, blames repeated problems with the law on an addiction to cocaine. A judge decided McCall could be released as long as he stays in a drug rehabilitation program.

``I ain't going to have no problems,'' McCall said. ``I'm drug free and I'm going to stay that way.''

McCall said promoter Don King is arranging for him to return to the ring in Mississippi in June.

 title in September 1994, then defended the title against Larry Holmes in 1995. He then lost his belt to Frank Bruno in a 12-round decision.

He fought Lewis again on Feb. 8, 1997, for the vacant WBC title. It was stopped after four rounds and awarded to Lewis when a sobbing McCall refused to fight.
