BRIEFLY : MANY BEACHES GET HEALTHFUL GRADES.


In good news for surfers, swimmers and sun lovers, many beaches from Ventura County line to Venice rated high on Heal the Bay's beach report card this week.

Of 31 beaches tested along that strip, only Surfrider Beach, 16801 Pacific Coast Highway Pacific Coast Highway may refer to:

  • Pacific Coast Highway (New Zealand), a 420 kilometre highway http://www.newzealand.
, Santa Monica Canyon at Will Rogers State Beach, Santa Monica Municipal Pier and Venice City Beach at Windward Avenue received F grades, indicating very high levels of bacteria that can cause respiratory, stomach or skin ailments.

Malibu Pier received a D, while Paradise Cove, Latigo Canyon Creek entrance, Las Flores Canyon Creek entrance and Pulga Canyon storm drain received C grades.

The remaining beaches, including popular stretches such as Leo Leo, in astronomy

ARLETA - Six passengers were taken to hospitals and nine others were treated and released at the scene after an MTA bus rear-ended a truck Friday, officials said.

The crash occurred in the 9300 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard Laurel Canyon Boulevard is a major street in the city of Los Angeles, California. Police arrest man in brandishing case

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - A man was arrested Friday on suspicion of pointing a BB gun with a scope that resembled an assault rifle at a school playground filled with children, police said.

A witness said he observed Pablo Velazquez Ruiz, 36, of North Hollywood with a gun on a porch at the southeast corner of Radford Street, near Victory Boulevard, said Capt. Greg Meyer of the LAPD's North Hollywood Division.

No one was injured during the 12:30 p.m. incident, police said. There is no evidence the man shot the BB gun in the direction of the school.

Ruiz was standing on the front porch and looking through a scope mounted on the gun aimed toward Victory Elementary School, the witness told police.

Former child actor booked in assault

HAWTHORNE - Gary Coleman, the former ``What you talking 'bout?' kid on TV's ``Diff'rent Strokes,'' was booked Friday for investigation of assault and battery for allegedly punching a female autograph seeker.

Coleman, accompanied by attorney Adam London, surrendered at police headquarters shortly before 3 p.m., two hours after a deadline originally set by police for him to appear for questioning.

Wachs seeks delay in milk-probe vote

Councilman Joel Wachs said Friday he asked for postponement of a vote whether to support a federal investigation into local milk prices so both sides get a chance to present their cases.

Parking dispute leads to shooting

CANOGA PARK - A parking dispute led a man to shoot at his neighbor Friday and barricade himself in his apartment until a SWAT team flushed him out, police said.
