BRIEFLY : MAN HIT BY VEHICLE, IN CRITICAL CONDITION.NEWHALL - A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and was in critical condition Friday at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital after he darted into traffic along San Fernando Road, authorities said. The man, identified as Anthony James Albert, 22, of Newhall, was seen running across San Fernando Road, near Meadowridge Drive at 5:30 p.m. Friday, according to Deputy Mark Slater of the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff's station. Witnesses saw him carrying a beer can and then running in front of a northbound vehicle, outside a crosswalk, Slater said. ?13- Daily News `Road rage' victim dies after shooting INGLEWOOD - A 61-year-old woman wounded in what police said was a ``road rage'' attack died Friday, five days after she was shot in the neck. Sgt. William Siddall said the assailant is now being sought for the slaying of Lorenza Sanchez, who was a passenger in her daughter-in-law's black BMW. The shooting occurred Sunday about 6 p.m. near La Cienega Boulevard. The car Sanchez was in nearly hit the gunman's small black car. The car then pulled next to the BMW and a gunman opened fire, striking Sanchez in the neck, police said. ?13- Associated Press Inmate dies after fight with deputies An inmate died in custody after a fight with Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies, authorities said Thursday. The cause of Mark Philyaw's death Wednesday will be determined after an autopsy. ``Philyaw lost consciousness while being restrained,'' said Deputy Henry Garza, a department spokesman. Philyaw, 33, was at the new Twin Towers Correctional Facility downtown when he died, said sheriff's Sgt. Susan Cross. Philyaw, who weighed about 250 pounds, had returned from a court appearance Wednesday when the fight began. Philyaw had been arrested Nov. 20 by Los Angeles police on suspicion of assault on a peace officer. |
