Fake handgun lands student in trouble

SANTA BARBARA - Police arrested a 14-year-old Santa Barbara High School freshman after other students reported seeing a gun in his desk.

The gun seized in Thursday's incident turned out to be a toy version of a chrome-plated 9 mm handgun. Police said bringing a reproduction to school is illegal.

``We've tried to get our kids to give up other kids and report this kind of thing,'' said Principal J.R. Richards. The boy, who was not identified, will be expelled, he said.
