BRIEFLY : MAN DIES FROM BURNS IN FIRE AT GAS STATION.

A man who was severely burned on 95 percent of his body when a fire erupted while he was filling a car with gasoline died Sunday, a hospital spokesman said.

Angel Silba, 21, of Van Nuys, died at 5:45 a.m. of multiple organ failures, said Larry Weinberg, spokesman for the Grossman Burn Center at Sherman Oaks Hospital.

``One by one, the body's systems begin shutting down,'' Weinberg said.

Silba, originally from Michoacan, Mexico, had been listed in gravely critical condition since the Friday explosion at 10:45 p.m. Friday at an Arco gasoline station in Van Nuys. All of him was burned except parts of his feet, and some of the third-degree burns were as deep as his bones.

``There was a flash and flames,'' city Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis said. The cause of the fire, which was confined to the car and did not damage the fuel pumps, remained under investigation Sunday.

2-year-old boy dies after falling into pool

QUARTZ HILL - A 2-year-old Palmdale boy fell into a backyard pool and died Sunday night, a sheriff's official said.

The toddler, whose name was not released by authorities, was found under the solar cover of the pool about 7:50 p.m. by the owner of the home in the 42400 block of Breeze Way after the boy's father came looking for him, said Sgt. Greg McHenry of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Attempts by residents to revive the boy were unsuccessful and he was eventually taken to Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:56 p.m., McHenry said.
