A panel met Saturday to begin the search for Tom Penders' replacement. Penders resigned last week after three weeks of controversy that began when unhappy players met with athletic director DeLoss Dodds.

Other top candidates on Texas' list reportedly include Bob Bender of Washington, Kelvin Sampson of Oklahoma, North Carolina assistant Phil Ford and Rick Barnes of Clemson.

GYMNASTICS: Amy Chow got a perfect score on the floor exercise, the final event of the Women's Professional Gymnastics Championship, to steal victory from 1996 Olympic gold medalist Shannon Miller at Lowell, Mass.

Miller's perfect 10 on the floor exercise put the pressure on Chow, who needed her own perfect mark in order to claim the title. Chow came through with a flawless performance to close out the event.

The two-day event featured eight women, including five from the 1996 Olympic gold medalist squad - Miller, Chow, Dominique Moceanu, Amanda Borden and Dominique Dawes.
