BRIEFLY : LONG WILL RUN AGAIN FOR SUPERVISOR POST.


VENTURA - Vowing to continue her work on land-use restrictions and to oversee construction of a new juvenile justice center, Supervisor Kathy Long announced Thursday she will seek a second term representing the Third District.

Although the primary is not until March 2000, Long said she made an early announcement in response to inquiries from her constituents.

``Folks have been asking me if I planned to run again so I felt I needed to answer the question,'' said Long, who was elected in 1996. ``I feel like I've been doing a good job and wish to continue on many of the issues I've been working on.

No one has announced an intention to challenge Long.

Long's district includes Camarillo, Ojai, Santa Paula Santa Paula (săn`tə pôl`ə), city (1990 pop. 25,062), Ventura co., S Calif., on the Santa Clara River in a fertile valley that yields citrus fruits, avocados, vegetables, flowers, nursery products, and walnuts; laid out 1875, inc. , Fillmore, Piru, Lockwood Valley and portions of Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown. .

Firefighters rescue people from smoke

OXNARD - Firefighters rescued two sleeping adults and two children from their second-floor fourplex four·plex
