The council authorized the mayor to apply for the money from the U.S. Justice Department, which has previously given the city $24 million for computerization and hiring civilians to take over some of officers' desk work.

The new proposal for improved computerization would in effect put 381 more officers on the street by saving time that officers now spend on tasks that computers could speed, city officials said.

Pot experts to battle over advocate's bail

Two medical marijuana experts are expected to square off in court today over whether Todd McCormick smoked pot while out on bail pending a federal drug trial.

Judges reject new anti-studio appeal
