Hearing scheduled in Encino stabbing

SYLMAR - Prosecutors filed a request Wednesday to have four teen-agers tried in adult court for allegedly beating and stabbing to death another teen who turned them away from a birthday party they tried to crash in Encino.

The minors, whose names were withheld, are charged with murder in the killing of 17-year-old Abtin Tangestanifar of Tarzana, said Deputy District Attorney Cynthia Ulfig.

A hearing was set for July 14 on whether the two 16-year-olds and two 17-year-olds should be tried as adults.

Tangestanifar was beaten and stabbed with a knife and screwdriver outside a home in the 17900 block of Medley Drive after telling the defendants he did not belong to a gang, the prosecutor said.

The older boys are from Northridge, Ulfig said, and the younger teens are from Granada Hills and Chatsworth. Two attended private schools, she said.
