School district to sell Lancaster property

LANCASTER - The Lancaster School District Lancaster School District may refer to:
  • Lancaster School District (California)
  • Lancaster School District (Minnesota)
  • Lancaster Central School District, New York
  • School District of Lancaster, Pennsylvania
  • Lancaster Independent School District, Texas
will sell more than 20 acres because of changes in the district's building plans, and a desire to free itself of burdensome taxes and penalties.

The school board at Tuesday's meeting approved selling 10 acres at 15th Street East and Avenue H-8 that had been acquired in the late 1980s for a future school. The adjoining area has since become more commercial and industrial, making the property inappropriate for a school, officials said.

Trustees approved selling half of a 20-acre parcel at 45th Street West and Avenue K because the proposed use of the land has changed from a middle to an elementary school, which requires less space.

The board also voted to sell the district's interest in property in Palmdale that was willed to it four years ago by a former teacher. The district has to pay annual taxes of $7,000 on the land, located at Avenue P-12 and 11th Street East.
