Councilman Richard Alatorre Richard Alatorre is a politician, and a member of the Democratic Party. Alatorre has served as a member of the Los Angeles City Council. He was the first Latino to serve on the council in 23 years.  said his Budget and Finance Committee will also meet with Mayor Richard Riordan's representatives next month to try to find funds to resume the ambitious police hiring program proposed by Riordan.

The council cut this year's budget so the police force could be expanded by 450 officers, rather than the additional 710 officers sought by Riordan. Because efforts to find funds to restore the mayor's plan have been unsuccessful, the LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.

More area streets will get sweepings

Reversing a trend of cutting government services, the Los Angeles City Council approved a plan Friday to increase the number of miles of streets to be cleaned.

``This is a major step in terms of our city catching up to provide street sweeping on a regular basis to all our city residents who want it,'' Councilman Richard Alarcon said about the increase to 900 miles.

 to implement a program to curb domestic violence against women, Mayor Richard Riordan Richard J. Riordan (born May 1, 1930) is a Republican politician from California, U.S. who served as the California Secretary of Education from 2003–2005 and as Mayor of Los Angeles from 1993–2001. Riordan ran for Governor of California unsuccessfully in 2002.  announced Friday.

The funding will be used to train police officers to identify and arrest suspects in domestic abuse cases and to respond better to victims.

Private attorneys approved in probe

Moving to avoid a potential conflict of interest, the Los Angeles City Council on Friday authorized City Controller Rick Tuttle Rick Tuttle (born 1940) was Los Angeles City Controller from 1985 to 2001. He stressed the importance of creating a strong democratic influence at UCLA, which was in his words "the best large public university in a major city.  to hire private attorneys to advise him in an inquiry involving former Associate Attorney General Webster Hubbell Webster Lee Hubbell (born 1949), known as Webster L. Hubbell and Webb Hubbell, was an Arkansas lawyer and politician. He was a lawyer in Pulaski County before serving as Mayor of Little Rock from 1979 until he resigned in 1981. .

Acting without comment, the council agreed with the request from Tuttle and City Attorney James Hahn as the controller's office looks into contracts with Hubbell and the role played by then-Airport Commission President Ted Stein.

Stein is challenging Hahn in next year's City Attorney's race.

Forecasters say expect cool holiday

Southern California is not expected to have a white Christmas - but you better watch out, and you better have snow tires or chains if you are venturing into the Sierra Nevada on a holiday trip.
