BRIEFLY : KNIGHT SET TO SPEAK ON NEW GUN CONTROL.


QUARTZ HILL - State Sen. W.J. ``Pete'' Knight, R-Palmdale, and Kern County Judge John Oglesby will speak at the Dec. 21 meeting of the Quartz Hill Town Council about new gun control laws that take effect Jan. 1.

The council will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the community building at George Lane George Lane (born 1940 ) is a British "mental calculator" and author. ``This year's toy drive will undoubtedly provide good cheer for the children of Antelope Valley,'' parole office spokeswoman Lisa Abma said. Inmates are learning vocational skills by making the toys, she said.

At Friday's giveaway, Santa handed out inmate-produced tic-tac-toe games and treasure boxes. Inmates began making toys through the program four years ago.
