BRIEFLY : KING PROBATION LOSS POSSIBLE OVER HIT-RUN.


Rodney King's misdemeanor hit-and-run driving conviction earlier this month led to a charge Monday that he violated terms of probation set in a drunken driving case.

King still has six months of jail time and $500 in fines ``hanging over his head'' from the 1994 conviction, said Mike Qualls, spokesman for the City Attorney's Office.

King, 31, was arrested Aug. 21, 1993, after he backed his vehicle into a wall while leaving a nightclub in central Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. . He was placed on three years' probation after pleading no contest to drunken driving.

Glendale police seek four in man's slaying

GLENDALE - Glendale police said Monday that they are trying to find four gang members who they believe stabbed a 35-year-old homeless man to death early Friday as a part of their evening ``fun.''

``This appears to be a cowardly attack on a homeless man by gang members having a fun time,'' said Sgt. John Perkins

Red Line ridership up after hefty rate hike

Despite a more-than-quintupled fare, Metro Red Line ridership jumped by about 6,000 a day, to nearly 30,000, the first week after three new stations opened, Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials said Monday.

Metro Rail overbilled for work, group says

A complaint filed against a Metro Rail contractor was unsealed Monday, claiming that the companies overbilled the government by nearly $20 million and released two employees who found out about it.

The false-claims lawsuit was brought by a group representing national, state, county and city interests against Los Angeles-based Parsons-Dillingham Construction.
