Sting nets 6 arrests in check scheme

THOUSAND OAKS - Detectives arrested six people in connection with a crime ring that allegedly passed counterfeit $100 travelers checks to local businesses for more than a year, officials said.

A sting operation conducted last week led to three arrests and the seizure of $53,000 worth of phony checks, Thousand Oaks police Detective Mike Christensen said.

Body of slain youth found in Pacoima

PACOIMA - A 17-year-old boy was found shot to death Friday night in the 13000 block of Carl Street, police said.

The Pacoima resident, whom police did not identify, was found dead 6:14 p.m. on a sidewalk, according to Lt. Joseph Garcia of the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Division.

No suspects were in custody, and the motive for the killing has not been determined, police said.
