USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  fighting mad over Trojan mailing

``The university never endorses candidates for political office and would never authorize the use of the Tommy Trojan logo for this purpose,'' said Jane G. Pisano, USC senior vice president of external relations.

Randy Hoffman, a 1976 USC graduate who is running to unseat Rep. Brad Sherman, D-Sherman Oaks, in the 24th Congressional District, used the school symbol in a mailing to university alumni.

The two-page mailer sported Tommy Trojan's image and was printed in the school colors of cardinal and gold.

The mailer prompted a lot of calls from angry alumni who wanted to know why the university was endorsing political candidates, Pisano said.

She said the university is demanding that Hoffman contact everyone who received the letter to explain that USC has not endorsed him.
