BRIEFLY : JAIL INMATE'S DEATH UNDER INVESTIGATION.

Sheriff's detectives continued Saturday to investigate the beating and stabbing death of a 33-year-old inmate whose body was left in a shower at the Men's Central Jail.

Robert Tiernan's body was found about 11:30 a.m. Friday, deputies said.

The inmate was last seen returning from a Long Beach Municipal Court hearing about 9 p.m. Thursday, Deputy Michael Irving said Saturday.

Authorities believe Tiernan was killed in a cell in a section of the jail reserved for gang members like himself and his corpse placed in the shower, Irving said.

Tiernan was arrested on drug charges May 11.
