At least three members implicated - Phil Coles of Australia, Ashwini Kumar of India and Agustin Arroyo of Ecuador - traveled to Lausanne to give evidence. Tight security prevented checks to see if others were present.

Coles, one of the most influential sports officials in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, was with the panel for about one hour and delined comment afterward.

Samaranch, in Spanish newspapers this weekend, played down many of the accusations in the Salt Lake City scandal.

BASKETBALL: Houston Comets The Houston Comets are a Women's National Basketball Association team based in Houston, Texas. Formed in 1997, the team is one of the original WNBA teams and after winning four championships in the first four years of the league's existence, the Comets are also the first dynasty of  point guard Kim Perrot walked out of the hospital, four days after doctors removed a golf ball-sized cancerous tumor from just below the surface of her brain. Perrot, 32, might be able at least to suit up with the Comets this summer.

Louisiana State will be eligible to play in this week's Southeastern Conference tournament despite recruiting violations, but the Tigers face costly scholarship reductions. The ruling ensures the school will receive about $1 million in tournament money.

In a first-round top fuel win over David Grubnic, Tony Schumacher recorded the fastest pass in NHRA history, crossing the quarter-mile finish line at a spef 330.23, nearly 4 mph faster than what record-holder Gary Scelzi (326.44) ran five months ago.

SOCCER: Welton scored three goals and Danny Pena and Ezra Hendrickson one each as the Galaxy defeated Atlas of Mexico's First Division 5-1 in an exhibition match at Bakersfield College.
