A hearing for former Democratic Party fund-raiser John Huang A major figure in the 1996 United States campaign finance controversy, John Huang (Chinese: 黄建南) worked for Lippo Bank in California, Worthen Bank in Arkansas, and as deputy assistant secretary for international economic affairs in U.S.  was postponed Monday when a key Republican congressman demanded that he testify before Congress prior to making a court plea bargain plea bargain n. in criminal procedure, a negotiation between the defendant and his attorney on one side and the prosecutor on the other, in which the defendant agrees to plead "guilty" or "no contest" to some crimes, in return for reduction of the severity of the .

Huang, the Democrats' chief fund-raiser for the Asian-American community in 1996, brought in $1.6 million in questionable donations that later were returned. He has been cooperating with Justice Department investigators in their campaign finance probe.

SHERMAN OAKS - The Los Angeles Board of Public Works will hold a public meeting and information fair beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Van Nuys-Sherman Oaks Senior Citizens Center, 5040 Van Nuys Blvd.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., and will be preceded at 6 p.m. by the information fair featuring representatives of the four bureaus in the Department of Public Works - engineering, sanitation, street services and street lighting.

Homeless woman's son sues over death

The son of a homeless woman who was shot and killed after threatening Los Angeles police officers with a screwdriver sued the city and Police Department on Monday in federal court.

Attorney Leo Terrell filed the lawsuit in U.S. District Court on behalf of Richard Mitchell, 34, the only son of Margaret Laverne Mitchell, 54. She was shot and killed May 21 after two police officers stopped her while she was pushing a shopping cart.

Deborah Ives has been named president of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo The Los Angeles Zoo founded in 1966, is a large zoo located in Los Angeles, California, USA.

The Zoo, located in Los Angeles' Griffith Park, is home to 1,200 animals from around the world.
