Donated food items still accumulating

OXNARD - Ventura County's food bank continued to receive food from Saturday night's ``Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat'' food drive.

The agency thought donations had peaked at 3,000 pounds Wednesday, but 1,000 pounds more arrived Thursday, said Susie Burmester, FOOD Share's food solicitor.

The collection was organized by the county's 4-H Club. Costumed children asked residents for canned goods for the food bank while they were busy collecting sweets.

Nearly 700 children from Girl Scouts Girl Scouts, recreational and service organization founded (1912) in Savannah, Ga., by Mrs. Juliette Gordon Low (1860–1927). It was originally modeled after the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, organizations created in Great Britain by Sir Robert Baden-Powell during , Boy Scouts, church groups and Key Clubs participated in the event. Their total now stands at 4,000 pounds of food.
