BRIEFLY : HIKER'S BODY FOUND AT BOTTOM OF CANYON.


ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. It covers over 2,600 km² (650,000 acres) and is located in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County, just north of the metropolitan area of Los  - A Montrose man apparently fell to his death over the weekend while hiking in the Angeles National Forest.

Rescuers found the body of Jong Hahm, 53, on Saturday afternoon in a canyon about 300 feet below Strawberry Peak.

Hahm's family called authorities after he failed to return from a Friday afternoon hike in the Colby Canyon area of the forest, said Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County sheriff's Cmdr. Don Bee.

Bay to L.A. ride to benefit AIDS groups

SAN FRANCISCO - Nearly 3,000 bicyclists headed out early Sunday on their way to Los Angeles in the sixth annual California AIDS Ride.

Participants raised a record $11.1 million for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation Committed to ending the pandemic and human suffering caused by HIV, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation develops innovative solutions, combining scientific evidence with community experience to fight HIV/AIDS and promote health.  and the L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center, said event spokeswoman Monica Choi. After expenses, 63 percent of the money raised will be donated to the two agencies.

``The funds raised by the California AIDS Rides are a lifeline to those living with HIV HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), either of two closely related retroviruses that invade T-helper lymphocytes and are responsible for AIDS. There are two types of HIV: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is responsible for the vast majority of AIDS in the United States.  and AIDS, assuring they receive the most comprehensive specialized care available,'' said Gwenn A. Baldwin, the center's executive director.

The AIDS Rides began in 1994, and have raised more than $100 million nationwide in five years.

Disney may launch Internet spinoff firm

The Walt Disney Co. is considering a spinoff of its Internet-related operations, several people close to the discussions said Sunday.

The details of any plan were not clear, but Disney has stakes in several Internet businesses that could become part of any spinoff. A Disney spokesman declined to comment.

A year ago, Disney acquired 43 percent of the Infoseek Corp., a service that helps guide users on the World Wide Web, in a deal valued at $900 million. The company's biggest venture is the sports site it operates on behalf of ESPN ESPN Entertainment and Sports Programming Network .
