James Kenneth "Jim" Hahn (born July 3, 1950) is an American politician from the Democratic Party. He was the Deputy City Attorney (1975-1979), City Controller (1981-1985), City Attorney (1985-2001) and Mayor of Los Angeles, California
 on Monday took the first step to run for mayor, and Councilman Mike Feuer did the same for the City Attorney's Office by filing forms with the city Ethics Commission In the United States, an Ethics Commission is a commission established by State law to discourage dishonest practices by their public employees and elected officials. Almost all American states have such a commission. , allowing them to begin raising money for the race.

Mayor Richard Riordan Richard J. Riordan (born May 1, 1930) is a Republican politician from California, U.S. who served as the California Secretary of Education from 2003–2005 and as Mayor of Los Angeles from 1993–2001. Riordan ran for Governor of California unsuccessfully in 2002.  will not be able to run again because of term limits, and Hahn is expected to see a crowded field of veteran officials and those who have been active in government.

The Auto Club of Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  announced its first Service Pro awards Monday, honoring 37 tow truck companies that contract with the club.

In Los Angeles County, the top AAA contractors were: Canyon Towing Service, Santa Clarita Crescenta Valley Tow Inc., La Crescenta Dickson Motor Service, San Gabriel H.A.R. Transport & Towing Inc., Reseda Jan's Towing Inc., Glendora Randy's Towing, San Fernando San Gabriel Lock Service Sanders Towing Inc., San Dimas Villa Marina Club Service, and Marina del Rey Westside Tow.

In Ventura County, the top AAA contractors were Airport Chevron Inc. in Oxnard, Bob Carlson Automotive & Towing in Ventura, Gene's Towing Service in Thousand Oaks, Roy's Towing Inc. in Thousand Oaks, Swink's Enterprises Inc. in Simi Valley, and Sierra Towing and Transport Co. in Westlake Village.

Cesare's Visalia Service Center was named the Service Provider of the Year.

City asked to give data on killer bees Killer Bees

With the arrival of Africanized killer bees in Los Angeles, a city panel sought action on Monday to help provide information to the public on the bees and what can be done to remain safe.

Councilwoman Laura Chick asked the city to seek the start of public education efforts to allow people to recognize the bee and avoid actions that could cause an attack.

``We live among nature, it's as simple as that,'' Chick said. ``Being aware and taking some basic precautions can help to lower the chance of being injured by this insect.''

Third-story fall kills Beverly Hills man

BEVERLY HILLS - A man apparently trying to climb into his locked apartment in Beverly Hills from a third-story balcony fell to his death Monday, police said.

Officers were summoned about 10 a.m. to the 100 block of South Crescent Drive to make sure no foul play was involved in the death of the victim, who was thought to be in his 40s.

Lt. Edward Kreins said detectives determined it was an accident.
