Parks directive lists chain of command

LAPD 1. LAPD - Link Access Procedure on the D channel.
2. LAPD - Los Angeles Police Department.
Chief Bernard C. Parks Bernard Parks (born December 7, 1943 in Beaumont, Texas) is a member of the Los Angeles City Council, representing the 8th District in South Los Angeles and former Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Parks attended Los Angeles City College, received his B.S.
released a ``succession of command'' directive Wednesday outlining who will run the Police Department when he is unavailable, sparking wide discussion at Parker Center over who is ``in'' and who is ``out'' with the chief.

Under the order, which is dated Sept. 17, Parks designated Deputy Chief Martin Pomeroy, who is the commanding officer of Operations-Headquarters Bureau, to be next in line to run the department when Parks is unavailable.

After Pomeroy, the succession would go to Deputy Chief Robert Gil, who is commanding officer of the Human Resources Bureau, followed by Deputy Chief Mark Kroeker, and fourth in line would be Deputy Chief Dave Gascon Gascon

Parks said when he reorganized the LAPD command two months ago that he had no second in command, but some police officials said the directive is an indication that he thinks highly of Pomeroy, who was formerly head of the Valley Bureau.

An LAPD spokesman said officers should not read too much into the directive.

``He's not trying to show favoritism one way or the other,'' said Officer Stinson Brown, the department spokesman.
