Acting like he's ready to take his best shot at stock car racing

Stock car racing is a form of automobile racing found mainly in the United States and Great Britain held largely on oval rings of between approximately a quarter-mile and 2.
 history, Jeff Gordon earned a prime starting spot - seventh - in Friday's time trials for tonight's Goody's 500.

: Washington's Juwan Howard gave $5,000 to the family of a man who drowned at a party the All-Star forward attended last weekend.

Brian Patterson, 34, drowned Saturday after he fell off a personal watercraft at Cedar Lake in northwestern Indiana during a party being given by one of Howard's friends.

State authorities investigating the accident said that Patterson and Howard didn't know each other. Katheryn Patterson, the victim's mother, said her son didn't have insurance and the family was struggling to cover the cost of funeral arrangements. Howard's representatives learned of the family's plight and wanted to help.
