BRIEFLY : GLENDALE MEETINGS KEY ON UTILITY ISSUE.


GLENDALE - Because Assembly Bill 1890 requires Glendale to decide by March whether to allow competition from private utilities, several meetings will be held for public input.

The following meetings are scheduled for this week:

11:30 a.m. Friday at the Sparr Heights Senior Center, 1613 Glencoe Way.

7:30 p.m. Friday at the Montrose Library, 2645 Honolulu Ave.

Dinner to celebrate city's volunteers

GLENDALE - The city of Glendale will honor more than 400 volunteers tonight at its annual Celebrating Our Volunteers dinner at the Civic Auditorium Civic Auditorium is a name commonly used for a city's auditorium and/or arena. Canada

Preserving history topic on tap tonight

BURBANK - The Burbank Heritage Commission will host a special meeting tonight at 7, featuring guest speaker Ken Bernstein, director of preservation issues for the Los Angeles Conservancy The Los Angeles Conservancy is the preeminent historic preservation organization in Los Angeles, California. It works to document, rescue and revitalize historic buildings, places and neighborhoods in the city. .

Topics of discussion will include historical preservation, financial incentives for businesses to restore buildings, and information about the Los Angeles Conservancy.

The meeting will be held in the Community Room of the Burbank Police and Fire Department Headquarters, at Third Street and Orange Grove.

Woodcarving show set for weekend

GLENDALE - The Smoky Smoky, river, c.250 mi (400 km) long, rising in Jasper National Park, W Alta., Canada, and flowing generally NE to the Peace River. It receives the Wapiti and Little Smoky rivers. It was explored (1792) by Alexander Mackenzie.  Hollow Woodcarvers will hold their third annual woodcarving show Saturday and Sunday at Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest.  Park.

Exhibitors and competitors will come from more than 56 state chapters of the California Carvers Guild. There will be more than 50 tables of exhibits and woodcarving demonstrations. A raffle is planned and the public will be able to vote for their favorite carving carving,

Crescenta Valley Park is at Dunsmore and Honolulu avenues in north Glendale. The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

T'ai Chi classes offered on Fridays
