BRIEFLY : GAS ODOR AT SCHOOL LINKED TO PIPE WORK.


A gas smell reported by students and faculty at Francis Polytechnic High School in Sun Valley on Aug. 19 appears to have come from a nearby natural gas pipeline being worked on by the gas company, school officials said Tuesday.

Police call detailed in ex-athlete's trial

A teary Monique Brown told police that her football legend husband threatened during an argument to kill her by snapping her neck, an officer testified Tuesday at Jim Brown's spousal abuse trial.

Valley man killed in possible drug buy

A 22-year-old Van Nuys man who was reportedly going to visit a drug dealer was shot to death late Monday night on Sepulveda Boulevard, police said.

Fire Department paramedics took Morales to Valley Presbyterian Hospital, where he died a short time later.

The victim's wife told detectives Morales had called a drug dealer earlier to arrange to purchase some drugs, but did not return home, Eisenhart said.

Witnesses saw a man running away from a blue Geo parked in the area that was later determined to be Morales' car. Detectives were attempting to identify the drug dealer and his associates.
