The Galaxy lost starting defender Danny Pena Danny Pena (born November 25, 1976 in Inglewood, California) is a retired U.S. soccer defensive midfielder. He spent most of his career, both indoors and outdoors, with teams in the western U.S.  and backup goalkeeper Kevin Hartman Kevin Eugene Hartman (born May 25 1974 in Athens, Ohio) is an American soccer player, who currently plays goalkeeper for the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer. He is known by some as "El Gato" (Spanish for "the Cat").  on Thursday - in what for the club was a worst-case scenario worst-case scenario nSchlimmstfallszenario nt  - in the Major League Soccer expansion draft.

Chicago used its second pick and third overall to draft Hartman, the Galaxy's highly regarded backup to Jorge Campos. In the final round, Miami chose reserve striker Brian Taylor.

: Carolina's 38-14 victory over Oakland on Sunday turned out to be costly for both teams. The NFL fined 13 players a total of $54,500 for their roles in a fight late in the game.

Raiders defensive tackles Chester McGlockton, who was fined $17,500, and Russell Maryland, who was fined $5,000, were both ejected after the fight.

GOLF: Bob Murphy shot a 6-under 66 for the first-round lead in the Senior Tour Championship in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Murphy birdied the final two holes to lead Hubert Green by a shot. Hale Irwin, chasing a record 10th Senior PGA Tour victory, was next with a 68, tied with Bruce Summerhays.

David Toms, who won his first PGA Tour event in the Quad Cities Classic in July, birdied four of the first six holes and four of the last five for an 8-under-par 63 and a one-stroke, first-round lead over Loren Roberts and Olin Browne in the Kapalua International in Hawaii.

ALSO: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the NBA's career scoring leader, is asking a judge to bar Karim Abdul-Jabbar, a running back for the Miami Dolphins, from using that name, court papers showed. The former Milwaukee Bucks and Lakers center also wants a federal judge to award him damages and immediately stop the sale of merchandise with the running back's name on it.
