BRIEFLY : FOX WINS KEY COURT DECISION VS. DUCKS.

An Orange County Superior Court judge denied a request Wednesday by the Mighty Ducks to return telecasts of their games from Fox Sports West 2 to Fox Sports West.

``While the emotional arguments are with (the) Mighty Ducks, they do not win the day,'' Judge Ronald C. Kline ruled.

Attorneys for the team filed suit Feb. 4, alleging that Fox breached its contract by airing Ducks games on a ``fledgling'' channel unavailable to local fans. Monday, Fox filed an antitrust suit against Disney, which owns the Ducks, alleging the company has been working to sabotage FSW2 because it plans to start its own sports regional cable channel.

BASEBALL: Major League Baseball, dedicating its 1997 season to Jackie Robinson, announced it will donate $1 million to the foundation established for the player who broke the sport's color line 50 years ago.

Cal Abrams, a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers in their glory days of the early 1950s who still heard from fans nearly a half-century later as he lay recently in a South Florida hospital, died after suffering a heart attack last week. He would have been 73 on Sunday.

Abrams' wife said he will be buried in his white Dodgers uniform bearing the number 18. Abrams batted .269 with 32 home runs and 138 RBI as a part-time player in the majors from 1949 to 1956.

BASKETBALL: The WNBA, the NBA-sponsored women's basketball league, will hold an elite draft today with the spotlight on what team will have stars such as Nancy Lieberman-Cline and Lynette Woodard. The eight franchises are all in NBA cities and will begin its 10-week season on June 21. Utah will get the first pick in the two-round draft. The L.A. Sparks have the eighth pick.

SOCCER: The Galaxy, faced with a March 1 salary-cap deadline, waived defender Arash Noamouz, forwards John Garvey and Jose Vasquez and midfielder Felipe Rodriguez.
