BRIEFLY : FORKLIFT OPERATOR CRUSHED TO DEATH.


BURBANK - An employee of a roofing company was crushed to death Friday as he was operating a forklift, police said Saturday.

Hermenegildo Sanchez, 26, of North Hollywood was discovered by an employee of a neighboring business at GES GES GTN (Global Transportation Network) Exercise System

The death occurred as Sanchez attempted to dump a pallet of garbage into a trash bin, Farrand said.

Pacoima event aids low-income families

11-year-old killed by gun in apartment

BELL GARDENS - An 11-year-old boy was shot dead inside a Bell Gardens apartment, and the 15-year-old boy suspected of pulling the trigger said the shooting was accidental, a police sergeant said Saturday.

Police found Andrew Ramirez of Bell Gardens dead from a gunshot wound to the head in an apartment in the 5800 block of Gage Avenue at 3:45 p.m. Friday, said Lt. Tom Schwabe of the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

Directors Guild picks Shea as president

Veteran television and motion-picture director Jack Shea was elected president of the Directors Guild of America at its biennial national convention in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Shea, who directed more than 100 episodes of ``The Jeffersons,'' succeeds Gene Reynolds. Shea becomes the DGA's 21st president.

``It is a tremendous honor to be chosen by my peers to lead the Directors Guild of America to the brink of the new millennium,'' Shea said.
