PALMDALE - Firefighters discovered a body in a mobile home that caught fire Wednesday.

Panel urges audit of ethnic conflict

A state legislative committee voted Wednesday to direct the state auditor State auditors are executive officers of U.S. states. The office usually is created by the state constitution.

The Joint Legislative Audit committee unanimously approved the proposal by Sen. Richard Alarcon, D-Van Nuys, which followed a racially charged attack Feb. 1 on Norman Bernstein, a school principal in Panorama City.

The legislative panel said the auditor should determine the types of conflicts school districts face, investigate whether existing policies provide guidance for responding to conflicts, review relevant laws and take other actions.
