BRIEFLY : FIRE IN MOBILE HOME KILLS PET, RUINS WORK.FILLMORE - A man's work studio in a mobile home was destroyed and his pet dog died in an early-morning fire that broke out on 1421 Goodenough Road, Ventura County Fire Department officials said. Robert Reynolds suffered smoke inhalation during the 4:22 a.m. Thursday fire that officials said was caused by a halogen lamp placed too close to the ceiling. Reynolds was treated and released at the scene, officials said. His dog, whose name was not released, was described as a Peruvian hairless, said Fire Department spokesman Fred Ponce. The single-wide mobile home, valued at $10,000, was totally destroyed, along with $15,000 worth of contents, officials said. Officials said the man had lived in a nearby home but worked in the studio. - Daily News Off-ramp widening done in Calabasas CALABASAS - A project to widen the ramps and bridge at the Parkway Calabasas exit on the Ventura Freeway has been completed, Los Angeles County officials announced Thursday. The $3.8 million project was part of a package of roadway improvements to help ease traffic congestion from increased development in the area. The project is at the northbound Parkway Calabasas exit, and was funded through an area fee district set up to generate funds for roadway improvements. - Daily News |
