A female Santa Monica police officer was charged with attempted murder Tuesday for allegedly shooting another officer during an argument last week.

Linda Catherine Brown, 36, shot Kevin Derek Cummings, 33, four times in the upper torso while they were arguing at her Ladera Heights home Oct. 1, authorities said. He remained hospitalized Tuesday at an Inglewood hospital.

The two officers, who had ended a relationship recently, were off duty at the time of the shooting, authorities said.

Old fire station to house museum

A museum dedicated to the city's African-American firefighters will be set up in a South Central Los Angeles fire station that served as their home base for 31 years during segregation, a city councilman said Tuesday.

Fire Station 30, which closed in 1980, will reopen in December under the auspices of the African-American Firefighters Museum board of directors, said Los Angeles Councilman Nate Holden. The station was home to African-American firefighters from 1924 to 1955.

The station, at 1401 S. Central Ave., also will be used as a community education center.

Firefighter donates kidney to mentor

LOMA LINDA - A Long Beach firefighter whose mentor guided him through the rigors of battling blazes when he was a rookie returned the gift Tuesday: He gave him a kidney so his former colleague could live a longer life.

Carl Scheu, 54, and Jason Wight, 38, underwent four hours of surgery at Loma Linda University Medical Center Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) is a teaching hospital of Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, California, United States. LLUMC is home to the Venom E.R, which specializes in snake bites. , said hospital spokeswoman Gracie Garner. Both were expected to be released in a week.

Wight offered to give his kidney to Scheu after discovering that his former mentor was undergoing dialysis treatments every night for eight hours.

Ex-councilwoman begins prison term

COMPTON - A former city councilwoman convicted of taking $50,000 in bribes began serving a 33-month sentence Tuesday.

Patricia Moore reported to a federal prison in Carswell, Texas. Moore had been scheduled to begin serving her term Sept. 2, but U.S. District Judge Consuelo Marshall gave her one more month of freedom so she could tend to her dying father.

Moore's father died last month, said Thom Mesereau Jr., Moore's attorney.
