Regional Medical Center will have a major supplement to its library, thanks to an Agoura Hills Brownie troop.

On Wednesday, 10 Brownies, all second-graders from Yerba Buena yerba buena (yĕr`bə bwā`nə), trailing evergreen perennial (Micromeria chamissonis) of the family Labiatae (mint family). It is native to W North America and especially common to woodland areas along the Pacific coast.  Elementary School's Troop 1181, donated a cache of about 100 books to the hospital. While the hospital already has a few books available for the 20 or so sick children who pass through the hospital each month, the Brownies' donation will be a big help, said Kris Carraway-Bowman, the hospital's spokeswoman.

``We have a library that's not very strong,'' Carraway-Bowman said.

The Brownies went through their own bookshelves and donated either books they had outgrown or ones that they thought other children might like, said Nancy Minicozzi, the troop's assistant leader.

``These are books from the girls' own collection,'' Minicozzi said.

The donation was used as a community service project for the girls, she said.

 Oxnard plant blaze

OXNARD - Firefighters worked overnight Tuesday and all day Wednesday to extinguish a blaze at the former Nabisco plant on Third Street.

Oxnard officials said the fire broke out about 11 p.m. Tuesday, and that engine companies from several other jurisdictions helped battle the blaze throughout Wednesday.

Officials said the fire was difficult to fight because one of the tenants was storing a large number of videotapes in the building. No cause or damage estimate was available.
