Koreatown fire kills girl, 2; mom burned

A halogen lamp placed too close to a curtain started an apartment fire in a Koreatown building Saturday that killed a 2-year-old girl and burned her mother, authorities said.

The fire was reported about 2:30 p.m. Firefighters extinguished the blaze in about 15 minutes, city fire spokesman Bob Collis said.

3-car freeway crash leaves several hurt

EAGLE ROCK - Several people were injured when three cars collided and caught fire on the Glendale Freeway, shutting down the northbound lanes for about 45 minutes, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher Software that determines what pending tasks should be done next and assigns the available resources to accomplish it. LAPD seeks change in proposed gun law

LAPD officials want to amend a proposed law that would require people who purchase ammunition to provide their thumbprint and other identifying information to gain exemptions from a ban on carrying concealed weapons.

The exemptions are for state-licensed security guards, off-duty police officers and firearms dealers.

In a report to be considered Tuesday by the Police Commission, LAPD officials say the groups proposed to be exempted already are scrutinized by government agencies.
