College will present spring dance shows

The CalArts School of Dance will present its Spring Dance Concert in two separate programs - A and B - through May 8. Program A will take place tonight and again on May 8. Program B will be held on Thursday and May 8.

The two programs feature completely different dance pieces - a total of fifteen choreographed works, and faculty works by Gail Chodera, Tina Yuan and Douglas Nielsen. Guest choreographer Patricia Kenny has created a new work, to be performed at both programs, for graduating students.

``The Spring Dance Concert offers two avenues for student growth,'' Dean Cristyne Lawson said. ``One is that the students can choreograph their own pieces, and the other is that students perform in faculty-choreographed work. Both avenues allow students to grow to the next level. In addition, graduating students, we have a guest artist mounting a new work especially for them.''

Kenny has performed and taught nationally and internationally for seven seasons with The Parsons Company.
