Martha Garazi worked there as a housekeeper, then as a nursing assistant for 1-1/2 years. She said she quit because living conditions for the patients were poor and there was a constant lack of clean supplies.

``The patients were very sad,'' Garazi said. ``My heart was broken every time I came in. I complained a lot but they said, `Oh, you just complain a lot.'

Garazi and other nursing assistants are trying to get their service records from the Reseda facility so they can renew their state certificates and find other jobs.

Coliseum to sell off seats, part of track

The Coliseum is now primarily the home of the USC Trojan football team. During the recent stretch of its success in football, most of USC's regular home games, especially the alternating games with rivals UCLA and Notre
 will soon be selling seats and pieces of the running track that once circled the football field, a spokesman said Wednesday.

The seats, installed in the landmark stadium between 1964 and 1966, will go for $75 plus tax, said Jon Lee, marketing director for the Coliseum and neighboring Sports Arena.

Oil pipeline granted right of way by city

The Los Angeles City Council The Los Angeles City Council is the governing body of the City of Los Angeles, California, United States.  on Wednesday reluctantly granted a right of way along the proposed Alameda Corridor to the company building a 132-mile underground oil pipeline from Santa Barbara to refineries in Wilmington.

Long Beach, which owns half the Alameda Corridor land, and Los Angeles will get $25,500 apiece each year in rent from Pacific Pipeline Systems Inc.

Block gets support from police chiefs

Sherman Block, bidding for a fifth term as Los Angeles County sheriff, picked up the endorsement Wednesday of the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs Association.

``My fellow police chiefs and I respect the vision and leadership that (Block) has consistently provided the law enforcement community,'' said San Fernando Police Chief Dominick Rivetti, the association's president.

Block, who was elected sheriff in 1982, will run for re-election in June.
