VENTURA - A former Ventura County sheriff's deputy pleaded guilty Thursday to charges of stealing a laptop computer A portable computer that has a flat LCD screen and usually weighs less than eight pounds. Often called just a "laptop," it uses batteries for mobile use and AC power for charging the batteries and desktop use. Today's high-end laptops provide all the capabilities of most desktop computers.  and falsely claiming overtime pay.

Darryl Dunn, 39, pleaded guilty in Ventura Superior Court to two charges of grand theft and a misdemeanor misdemeanor, in law, a minor crime, in contrast to a felony.  said in court that he would reduce the grand theft charges to misdemeanors at Dunn's sentencing hearing on Nov. 21. Dunn would face a maximum sentence of two years and three months in the county jail.

Teachers approve new union contract

THOUSAND OAKS Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. Avocados, citrus, vegetables, strawberries, and nursery products are grown.  - The Unified Association of Conejo Teachers has overwhelmingly approved a new contract that would give teachers a 4.2 percent salary schedule raise and a 2 percent one-year bonus.

Union members cast 188 votes in favor of the agreement and four against it Wednesday, said Hal Vick, executive director of the association.

The agreement is an adjustment to the three-year contract the union and Conejo Valley Unified School District Conejo Valley Unified School District or CVUSD is a school district in Ventura County. It serves Thousand Oaks, California and its subsections Newbury Park and Westlake Village.  approved last school year.
