The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is the five member governing board of Los Angeles County, California. Members of the board of supervisors are elected by district, the current members as of April 2006 are:
  • District 1: Gloria Molina, Democrat
 voted Tuesday to pay $350,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a former sheriff's deputy alleging discrimination and sexual harassment sexual harassment, in law, verbal or physical behavior of a sexual nature, aimed at a particular person or group of people, especially in the workplace or in academic or other institutional settings, that is actionable, as in tort or under equal-opportunity statutes.  in the Sheriff's Department.

Kathy Tinker contended that beginning in February 1994, a male deputy created a hostile work environment A hostile work environment exists when an employee experiences workplace harassment and fears going to work because of the offensive, intimidating, or oppressive atmosphere generated by the harasser.  by making numerous crude and sexually suggestive remarks and saying women didn't belong in law enforcement. She also alleged that in October 1994 she was denied a transfer to the shooting range as a weapons instructor because she is a woman.

Tinker left the department on stress leave in August 1995 and was granted a disability retirement in July 1996.

Charges filed after tot found in hot car

A La Canada Flintridge man who allegedly left his 2-year-old son in a locked, parked car where the temperature exceeded 120 degrees was charged with child endangerment, the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.

City attorney's spokesman Mike Qualls said his office filed two child-endangerment charges against Neil Arthur Jones, 51, who is scheduled to enter a plea Sept. 2 in Van Nuys Municipal Court.

Jones is accused of leaving his son in the back seat of a vehicle in North Hollywood, outside the Home Depot store, Qualls said.

Van Nuys Airport Van Nuys Airport (IATA: VNY, ICAO: KVNY, FAA LID: VNY) is a public airport located in Van Nuys, California in the San Fernando Valley, within the Los Angeles city limits.  will be home to a second heavy-lift firefighting helicopter for the 1998 fire season, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors decided Tuesday.

The board approved an exclusive lease with Oregon-based Erickson Air-Crane for the use of one of its firefighting helicopters, which can deliver more than 30,000 gallons of water or retardant per hour.

Man charged with slaying of spouse

Murder and other charges were filed Tuesday in Los Angeles against a man accused of beating his estranged es·trange
