 officers held in harassment case

Two California Highway Patrol officers were booked Thursday on suspicion of weapons violations and allegations that they harassed a Los Angeles man, and the agency announced it will try to fire them.

Wade Allen and Temujin Jones, who have been with the department about 30 months but are now on administrative leave, are assigned to the West Los Angeles-area office, said CHP Officer Rhett Price.

Each was booked for threatening to commit a crime that would result in death or great bodily injury, exhibiting a deadly weapon deadly weapon n. any weapon which can kill. Jones also was booked for illegal use of a tear gas tear gas, gas that causes temporary blindness through the excessive flow of tears resulting from irritation of the eyes. ``On March 17 . . . (the CHP) received a telephone call from a 52-year-old male resident of Los Angeles complaining of alleged harassment by (the) two officers,'' Price said.

``As the CHP is extremely concerned with any complaint lodged against a member of this department, (and) given the seriousness of the allegations, a criminal investigation was initiated into the conduct alleged of the two officers,'' Price said.

On April 15, the men were relieved of their peace officer powers and put on administrative leave, pending completion of the criminal investigation, Price said. Allen and Jones were arrested Thursday.

The case will be presented to the District Attorney's Office for possible prosecution, Price said.

Valley temperature to rise for weekend

Sunshine should return this weekend to the San Fernando Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

By Sunday, temperatures should climb back into the 80s, according to weather specialist Stuart Seto of the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

The Valley escaped rain Thursday and won't likely see any today either, Seto said.

``There's still a light chance of showers near the foothills - about 20 percent,'' he said.

But temperatures should start climbing Saturday, he said, reaching into the 70s on Saturday and the 80s on Sunday.

Thursday, temperatures didn't even make it to 70, lingering in the mid-60s.
