Some 20 years after fulfilling his dream of playing for Bear Bryant Paul William "Bear" Bryant (September 11, 1913–January 26, 1983) was an American college football coach. He was best known as the longtime head coach of the University of Alabama football team, and is the namesake of the Paul W. Bryant Museum.  at Alabama, Mike Dubose Mike DuBose (born January 5, 1953, in Opp, Alabama) is a former college football player and the current head coach of Millsaps College. He is most notable for his tenure at the head coach at the University of Alabama.  got Bryant's old job and all the pressure of preserving the tradition the coaching great started years ago.

    The Big Ten, seeking increased TV exposure and another money maker for its athletic programs, adopted a men's postseason basketball tournament - the first in the league's 102 years.

    The vote by the Big Ten Council of Presidents/Chancellors was 9-2, with Michigan and Indiana against the proposal.

    The tournament will begin March 5-8, 1998, at a neutral site the Big Ten hopes to announce in the spring. The winner gets an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

    Mashburn was hurt Nov. 12 in a game against the Clippers. He was averaging 9.3 points per game.

    Seattle SuperSonics coach George Karl was fined $8,500 for verbally abusing the referees and refusing to leave the court last Thursday.

    Karl got into the dispute and was ejected with five minutes left in a 117-86 victory at Minnesota.
