BRIEFLY : DRYER FIRE DAMAGES CHINATOWN STRUCTURE.


A fire ignited by a malfunctioning gas dryer caused nearly $1 million in damage to a commercial building and its contents near Chinatown on Saturday, said a city fire spokesman.

The greater alarm fire erupted about 6:35 p.m. in the building at 654 Gibbons Famous people named Gibbons include:
  • Beth Gibbons (born 1965), British singer
  • Billy Gibbons, guitarist for ZZ Top
  • Cedric Gibbons (1893–1960), American art director
  • Christopher Gibbons (1615 - 1676), English composer, son of Orlando

Firefighters from 15 companies fought the blaze until about 7:50 p.m., Collis said. No one was injured.

Square honors late journalist

City Council President John Ferraro John Ferraro (May 14 1924—April 17 2001) served as a Los Angeles City Councilman from 1966 until his death. Early life

From time to time, the city designates such squares, but naming one for a journalist is a first.

Camrose Drive and Glencoe Way is now officially designated as Theo Wilson Square.

Wilson was known for covering big stories, such as the Patty Hearst kidnapping and the Manson murders.
