SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - Police investigating the deaths of a woman and her infant grandson said Thursday that the woman apparently drowned after having a heart attack and accidentally pushing the child's stroller into a backyard swimming pool as she collapsed.

Police said they have officially ruled both deaths accidental drownings.

Anahit Dolmaian, 68, and her 21-month-old grandson Daniel were discovered by the child's mother about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The infant was found strapped in a stroller upside down in the deep end of the pool.

The grandmother was partially submerged above him.

 - Police are investigating the death of a 1-year-old boy who was found not breathing at a relative's home Thursday.

Police and paramedics arrived at the home in the 1400 block of Knox Street shortly after receiving a call about 11:20 a.m. that the child, Albert Urena of Sylmar, was not breathing.

The child was rushed to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is a hospital in Mission Hills, California, USA. The hospital has 254 beds, and is part of Providence Health & Services. History  in Mission Hills and was pronounced dead.

 OKs conflict fines against mayor

A $3,000 fine was upheld Thursday against Mayor Richard Riordan Richard J. Riordan (born May 1, 1930) is a Republican politician from California, U.S. who served as the California Secretary of Education from 2003–2005 and as Mayor of Los Angeles from 1993–2001. Riordan ran for Governor of California unsuccessfully in 2002.  for violating state conflict-of-interest laws.

Meeting in Sacramento, the Fair Political Practices Commission unanimously approved the settlement worked out between commission attorneys and Riordan.

The fines stemmed from Riordan's decision to sign off on a $4 million contract for City Hall renovations that financially benefited A.C. Martin and Associates, a tenant in a downtown building that the mayor partly owns.

SUN VALLEY - A shooting suspected to be gang-related left a Sun Valley man in critical condition Thursday, police said.

John Patrick Dunn, 24, was hospitalized at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center after the shooting at 12:05 a.m. in the 8800 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard Laurel Canyon Boulevard is a major street in the city of Los Angeles, California. Boyfriend arrested in woman's slaying

PACOIMA - Police have arrested a Pacoima man on suspicion of murder in the death of his live-in girlfriend, who was shot in what police believe was a domestic dispute.

Norma Bucio, 24, was found fatally shot at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday in the 13200 block of Mercer Street. Authorities arrested Javier Barrientos, 29, of Pacoima on suspicion of murder, said Lt. Joe Garcia of Foothill Division.

``In the daylong investigation, evidence pointed to it not being an accident,'' Garcia said.

Garcia said the arrest at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday came after Barrientos gave inconsistent statements about what occurred. He was being held without bail.
