CHATSWORTH - A driver trying to change lanes was killed Sunday when he lost control of his car and clipped a truck, then crashed into a tree, Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  police reported.

Investigators hadn't determined the Mustang'e speed, but Patrakian was accelerating as he traveled east on Devonshire, police said. The front passenger side of the Mustang struck the rear driver's side of the truck during the attempted lane change, Schlank said.

Sheriff's divers can't find Simi man

ANGELES NATIONAL FOREST The Angeles National Forest (ANF) was established by executive order on December 20, 1892 as the San Gabriel Timberland Reserve. It covers over 2,600 km² (650,000 acres) and is located in the San Gabriel Mountains of Los Angeles County, just north of the metropolitan area of Los  - Sheriff's divers Sunday failed to locate the body of a 33-year-old Simi Valley man who disappeared after falling overboard at Pyramid Lake.

It was the second day divers came up empty in their search for Craig Moore, who was presumed to have drowned after falling off a boat about 2:40 p.m. Saturday, said sheriff's spokeswoman Carrie Stuart.

Sheriff's Sgt. Bob Stoneman said Moore, who was not wearing a life preserver, was in a cove near the dam at the south end of the lake when the accident occurred.

Sheriff's pilot survives shooting

WRIGHTWOOD - A sheriff's helicopter pilot wounded by ground fire during a wild 30-mile chase was recovering Sunday after surgery for wounds to his leg and hip, San Bernardino County authorities said.

Deputy Robert Hill temporarily lost control of the helicopter after he was shot, but he and an observer, Deputy Carlos Quezada, managed to make a safe emergency landing in a mountainous area, said Sgt. Rick Carr.

Hill was airlifted to San Bernardino County Medical Center where he underwent surgery Saturday night for bullet wounds. He was described Sunday as stable, said Carr.

The chase began about noon Saturday in the Jurupa area, the sergeant said.

Jerry Gazaway, 37, of Riverside was arrested and booked for investigation of two counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. An unidentified female passenger was questioned but not charged.

Death toll hits 8 in Temecula crash

RIVERSIDE - The death toll from last weekend's crash of a pickup truck crammed with illegal immigrants rose to eight with the death of a critically injured man, authorities said Sunday.

Coroner's officials said they have been unable to identify the man, who died Saturday at Riverside General Hospital. He had been unconscious and in critical condition since the April 6 accident.

The man was among 18 people injured when the pickup truck they were traveling in crashed while being followed by U.S. Border Patrol agents near Temecula. Seven others died at the scene.
