Pacoima unity walk held despite storms

The Pacoima Community Youth Culture Center held its Legacy and Unity Walk despite stormy weather that forced some changes in the festivities fes·tiv·i·ty

The walk was scheduled to begin at Hubert H. Humphrey Park and end at Hansen Dam Hansen Dam in Los Angeles County, California was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District in 1939 and 1940. The project is located near the northern edge of the San Fernando Valley on Tujunga Wash, about one mile below the confluence of the Big Tujunga Wash , but instead it stopped at David Gonzales Park, said the Rev. Zedar E. Broadous, a spokesman for the center's 20th anniversary celebration. ``They modified everything because of the weather,'' Broadous said, but dancers, singers and speakers just held the community fair at the other park. L.A. AIDS projects get private grants

The Bienestar Latino Aids Project has been awarded a $5,000 grant stemming from a fund-raising event organized by the Foundation for Educational Research, a nonprofit organization Nonprofit Organization

The Bienestar program, based in North Hollywood, was one of 36 AIDS organizations whose grants were announced in a ceremony Friday at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood.

Bienestar will use the grant to fund its newly opened La Casa center for gay Latino youths in East Los Angeles East Los Angeles, uninc. city (1990 pop. 126,379), Los Angeles co., S Calif., a residential suburb of Los Angeles, in an industrial area. It has a large Mexican-American population. There is a performing arts center and a cultural center. A junior college is there. .
