LANCASTER - Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County sheriff's deputies on Thursday surrounded a home where they believed a wanted ex-convict was holed up.

The man, whose name was not released, refused several orders to leave the residence in the 100 block of East Lancaster Boulevard. Officials said the man was wanted in connection with a February incident involving assault, kidnapping kidnapping, in law, the taking away of a person by force, threat, or deceit, with intent to cause him to be detained against his will. Kidnapping may be done for ransom or for political or other purposes.  and auto theft.

Suicidal man drives car into train, lives

PALMDALE - A suicidal man was admitted to a hospital after he drove onto railroad tracks and headed toward an oncoming on·com·ing

The 40-year-old Palmdale man was slightly injured in·jure

 when his car hit the Union Pacific freight train shortly after midnight Wednesday near Sierra Highway Sierra Highway is a road in Southern California, United States. It runs from Tunnel Station near the north limit of the City of Los Angeles, where it intersects with San Fernando Road and Foothill Boulevard, as well as Interstate 5, and continues north to Mojave, mostly paralleling  and Avenue P.

``He drove up onto the tracks and toward the train,'' said Deputy Dave Miklos. ``Somehow he didn't hit the train head-on.''

After his car hit the train, the man got out and began to run away, but was apprehended by deputies.
