LANCASTER - A dead man's body with gunshot wounds was found inside a Lancaster home Sunday, a Sheriff's Department official said.

The Police Commission will consider a proposal Tuesday to accept 600 assault rifles from the U.S. Army to be converted from automatic to semiautomatic weapons for use by police officers.

The LAPD has been moving to better arm its officers ever since they were outgunned six months ago by bank robbers armed with assault rifles in North Hollywood.

The donation to the city is worth $267,000.
