 Indian Museum The Indian Museum was founded by Dr Nathaniel Wallich a Danish botanist at Serampore (originally called Frederischnagore) near Kolkata (Calcutta), India, in 1814. It is a multi-disciplinary institution of national standing and is one of oldest museums in the world.  will benefit from the a Swing into Spring dance 3-6 p.m. Sunday at the Palmdale Cultural Center, 704 E. Deadline looming for rodeo pageant

Judge to be saluted at local luncheon

LANCASTER - Antelope Valley attorneys will honor a local judge Friday at an Antelope Valley Bar Association luncheon.

The Antelope Valley Judge of the Year announcement is a surprise, organizers said. Teen gets 20 days for car incident

LANCASTER - A Littlerock teen-ager was sentenced to 20 days in Juvenile Hall after being convicted of charges stemming from a traffic incident in which another teen fell out of a truck the defendant was driving and was run over.

Sentence handed down in '96 murder

LANCASTER - A 22-year-old man was sentenced to 16 years to life in prison Friday for second-degree murder in the 1996 execution-style slaying of a man who was kidnapped, shot to death and dumped in a field.

Omar Torres Solorzano, 22, pleaded no contest in the death of 26-year-old Roger Arciga, who was kidnapped from an acquaintance's Lancaster home Oct. 30, 1996, and found the next day in a field in the 47600 block of Division Street.

Solorzano was the last of four defendants in the case. One was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison, the second received probation on top of the time he served awaiting trial, and the third was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
